In prewar Japan, the souls of soldiers who died in battle for their country were called "Heroes" and were revered. It was believed that their souls would return to a special shrine called Yasukuni Shrine, which is dedicated to the soldiers of national defense, and that they were enshrined there.
This story is a tale of love for the country and hometown of soldiers who lost their lives during the fierce battles of war and could not even "return home" their remains.
Late at night on August 15th, the anniversary of the end of the war, a military train that is not listed on the timetable arrives on the silent platform of Tokyo Station. On board the train are the heroes who died in the southern seas in the war more than 60 years ago and sank into the sea. They only have a short time until morning to return home.
They had one purpose in returning home.
That was to witness a homeland Japan that had recovered from the defeat, been reborn as a peaceful nation, and is now one of the richest countries in the world. And to convey the current situation to the countless souls still adrift in that sea, longing for their homeland.
The moment they have dreamed of returning home for so many years.
What do those who died for their country see in today's Japan?
